I am delighted to be attending the first Hugo Burge Foundation’s Open Studios and Makers Market of 2024 with a selection of couture millinery, the inaugural event will be taking place over the first weekend of June.

Located on Redbraes Meadow at Marchmont House in the Scottish Borders, TD10 6YL, the Open Studios and Makers Market is being held over the weekend of June 1st-2nd, open 10 – 5 on both days and celebrates creativity across the Scottish Borders region. Visitors to the event will be encouraged to wander through the blossoming Walled Garden, and refreshments will be available in the courtyard adjacent to the courtyard studios.

For the Makers Market, I will be showing a selection of couture hat and headpiece styles as well as affordable millinery accessories. and to wet your appetite I thought I would feature a few of these styles in this post. So starting with Indiana, a hand-formed lined fedora style in a khaki brown/green melange fur felt. Indiana is shown styled with a tonal handmade petersham beaded hat band and has been hand-finished to incorporate a deep indent to the centre of the crown.

Matilda is an oversized tonal silk and velvet flower headpiece set on a comfortable couture headband with accent veiling

At the Makers Market, I will show a selection of hats, headpieces, millinery and millinery accessories – all made in my studio in North Northumberland.

There will be pieces inspired by classic and vintage millinery styles, as well as many finished with a contemporary twist such as Matilda. Matilda features satin and velvet over-blown creamy taupe roses, set on a satin-covered blocked headband, making this a great Mother of the Bride or occasion headpiece.

I will also be available for consultations and commissions, like the commissioned piece featured in my last post. All the pieces shown will be characterised by my signature couture styling, and will be shown under my branding of The Northumberland Milliner.
